Did you ever wonder why there are so many Kiwis (i.e. people from New Zealand, not the fruit) around Tahoe in the winter time? Trina and I have, so we went to New Zealand to find out!
Kiwis come to Tahoe for the same reason we go there… New Zealand is very much like Lake Tahoe. There are beautiful, pristine lakes, rivers, and streams. There are soaring, snow-capped mountains that provide world-class skiing, climbing, hiking, boating, and camping opportunities. There are glorious beaches, fantastic fishing-holes, and some of the best hiking and mountain biking trails in the world.
A friend described the North and South Islands of New Zealand, “You take the best parts of California, Oregon, and Washington states, wrap a dramatic coastline around them, and split it into two islands.” We agree, that’s New Zealand, but it is also Lake Tahoe.
We came home, fully re-charged, re-invigorated and ready for winter in the high Sierra. Now all we need is more snow! Everyone, do your snow dances! Here’s to Winter, another season for Tahoe to shine.
