Nestled against the Sierra massif, Donner Lake is the first hint of fun as you traverse the mountains on interstate 80 heading eastward. Much smaller than it’s southern cousin, Tahoe, Donner Lake offers a wide variety of recreational activities including waterskiing (Donner is much warmer than Tahoe), kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding.
As it is close to the interstate and one of the most westerly of areas, Donner Lake is a favored vacation spot for travelers. Fantastic hiking, cycling, rock climbing, and (as already mentioned) boating all, are just a few steps from beautiful Donner Lake.
