Squaw Valley – Olympic Valley, CA
Olympic Valley, more commonly known as Squaw Valley, is a picturesque valley that houses approximately 1,396 residents year round. That number will swell tremendously during ski season and holidays. Olympic Valley is also home to Squaw Valley ski resort, which opened for business in 1949 and hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics.
Squaw Valley was purchased by KSL Capital Partners in November 2010. A year later, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Ski Resort merged. The new company operates as one, with joint lift tickets and single season passes for visitors and free shuttles between its locations, but preserves the individuality of the two resorts. Squaw Valley has a base elevation of 6,200 rising up to 9,050. The aerial tram carries visitors 2,000 feet up the mountain to High Camp, where you will find a pool, roller skating, restaurant and spectacular views.
The European style village at the base of the resort is comprised of condos, restaurants & shops and hosts a wide array of summer events. The Resort at Squaw Creek has a ski lift connecting it to the ski resort for a true ski in ski out experience. Olympic Valley homeowners are served by their own Fire Department and private water company, there is also a post office in the Valley.
